2008 Hidden Valley Girl Scout Day Camp Information

What: Girl Scout Day Camp allows girls to explore and learn about nature, cook over an open  fire, make crafts, enjoy outdoor adventures and make new friends! (Day Camp information flyer)

Who: Registered Girl Scouts who’ve completed grades K-5. Girls completing 6th grade and older may apply to be aides at Day Camp.

When: June 16-20, 2008 OR June 23-27, 2008
8:45am-3:00pm daily
Overnight on June 21 OR June 28for Juniors & up

Where: Hidden Valley Camp, NW corner of 15th and Kasold, Lawrence, KS

Why: Because it’s FUN!!

Fees: $40 for campers (includes t-shirt, cup, crafts, all activities, snacks and meals)

Sister Plan: Families with 3 or more girls attending Day Camp are eligible for the sister discount plan. The first girl pay $40, the second girl pays $30, and the 3rd girl pays $20.00.

Deadline: Camper Registrations must be postmarked by May 1st, 2008.

WE NEED YOU!! Our camp is completely staffed by volunteers. Volunteering at camp is a great way to make a difference. We need adult volunteers for one day shifts, lunch shifts, activity leaders and full-week Unit Leaders. Training for the Unit Leaders will be held June 16th, 8:30am-2pm. Day camp orientation will be from 8:30am-10:30am. An outdoor skills refresher will follow from 10:30-2pm and will include fire building, knife safety, etc. and lunch cooked over an open fire. Volunteers with outdoor training may omit the refresher. All adult volunteers are welcome to attend the orientation and training. Day Camp Aide Information

Registered Girl Scouts who’ve completed grades 6-12  (Teen Scouts) may apply to be Day Camp Aides.  APPLY TO BE AN AIDE FOR ONE OR BOTH WEEKS!

Day Camp Aides must attend the mandatory training and overnight, June 13th, 5:00pm to June 14th, 8:00pm. This is for ALL aides. The training is used to get to know each other, practice/teach skills, and to work together as a group. The purpose of the training is to build teamwork, enthusiasm, and to have fun. This teamwork, fun and enthusiasm is passed on to our campers giving them a memorable camp experience. Day Camp Aides will also attend the Thursday overnight during camp with the Junior scouts.

First time applicants must complete Program Aide Intern Training. Sign up now for May 3rd training in Lawrence (deadline April 23rd, fee $8).

PRIORITY CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO GIRLS WHO:

  • Mail completed forms by the due date. 
  • Complete Aide Intern Training.

  • Have experience (camping, helping with younger girls, prior Day Camp Aide, etc.)
